Painting with Spontaneity and Intention

Alla Prima Painting is an 8-session oil painting course designed for intermediate students eager to take direct painting to the next level. Translating from the Italian “at first attempt,” the alla prima technique challenges artists to complete a painting in one or few sittings and capture light, color, and form in their most expressive state.

In this course, students will learn to paint wet-into-wet, focusing on confident brushwork, strong value relationships, and the art of making decisive color choices. Through guided demonstrations and targeted exercises, you’ll practice simplifying complex subjects, mixing clean colors, and maintaining freshness in every stroke.

Each session includes instructor demonstrations, individual feedback, and class critiques to refine both technical skill and artistic intuition.
