Step Into Oil Painting with Confidence and Clarity

Oil Painting is an 8-session course that welcomes artists of all levels (whether you're just getting started or looking to advance your skills.) With a flexible, individualized approach, students will explore classical oil painting techniques through the grisaille method, warm and cool color theory, and limited palette painting. Beginners may focus on foundational exercises like black-and-white value studies, while more experienced students will dive into more complex topics such as temperature shifts and color harmony, but all within the same supportive class setting.

Each student will receive personalized instruction and assignments tailored to their experience and goals. Students work through drawing, underpainting, layering, and refinement at your own pace, with guidance on materials, technique, and visual thinking. The course offers structure and growth whether you're learning to see value for the first time or refining your command of color and form.

learn how to create an underpainting

set your self up for success by starting small with only black and white

Next, we do the classic pear painting project as our first simple color painting.

Now, that we’ve tried our hands at color, alot of questions regarding color theory will arise so lets pause on paintings and do a color theory project

Next project well do a landscape master copy. Master copies have always been the best way to learn.

For our final project we will try an ‘Alla Prima’ painting from life which will prepare students who want to take the Alla Prima course after this class.
