Painting in the Footsteps of Masters—with Your Twist

Art from Art is an 8-session oil painting course designed for intermediate students who want to deepen their skills by studying the masters. Instead of simply copying, students will select a painting by a renowned artist (such as Sargent, Van Gogh, or Monet) and explore its technique, brushwork, and color palette. The goal is to understand the artist’s approach while creating a personal reinterpretation of the work. Through sketching, underpainting, and color studies, students will build a strong foundation and gain insight into historical painting methods.

As the course progresses, students will begin layering their own creative voice into the piece. They will be introduced to subtle changes in composition, subject, or expression while staying rooted in the master’s style. Each session includes instructor guidance, demonstrations, and individual feedback to support your growth. The course culminates in a completed painting and a group critique, offering reflection and insight into the process of learning art from art.
