Welcome to the Atelier.
For the next hour, the world slows down — and you begin to see what you've walked past your whole life.
Learning to See.
Six exercises, from a single line to a master's eye — each the same quiet discipline: look, compare, reproduce.
Line to the next dot
A straight, confident line landed exactly on target. Control, not perfection.
C · S · I
Every drawing is built from curves, S-curves, and intervals — the simple arcs, the lines that reverse, and the measured distances between landmarks. Find all three in a master's drawing, then reproduce it by eye.
Follow the flow
Not handwriting — line quality. Stiff, hesitant lines read as dead; confident ones flow. Trace one movement — a tall arch, a rolling wave, a long taper — until your hand knows it. Hard on the down, light on the up.
Match the circle
An even, closed curve returning to itself — the hardest simple shape there is.
Draw & match
Invent any squiggle, then match it exactly in the box beside it — same size, same placement. The first taste of sight-size.
Bargue Studies · sight-size
Everything so far leads here. The calibrated eye aimed at a real master for the first time — same shape, same size, measured with plumb and crosshair. Every rung was quietly preparing you for this.
