MATERIALS BY COURSE
All Hannah’s Art Place classes provide the materials you need. These lists are for practicing at home or building your own kit — don’t buy everything at once, and email us first if you’re unsure.
DRAWING — ACADEMIC DRAWING & FIGURE DRAWING
• Graphite pencils: 2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B
• Vine or willow charcoal, plus compressed charcoal or charcoal pencils
• Kneaded eraser and plastic eraser
• Blending stumps
• 9×12 sketchbook and a drawing paper pad (Strathmore 300/400 series or similar)
• Pencil sharpener or utility knife, small ruler
PORTRAITURE
• Everything from the drawing list above
• Toned paper pad (tan or gray)
• White charcoal or chalk pencil, Conté
OIL PAINTING I & II
• Colors: Titanium White, Ivory Black, Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Red (student-grade is fine to start)
• Hog bristle brushes: filberts and flats in a few sizes (#2–#10), plus one small round
• Palette knife and palette (disposable pad or glass)
• Odorless mineral spirits (Gamsol) and a small jar with a lid
• Canvas panels: 8×10 and 9×12
• Rags or paper towels, apron
WATERCOLOR
• Watercolor set, pans or tubes (Winsor & Newton Cotman or similar)
• 140 lb cold-press watercolor paper pad
• Round brushes #6 and #10, one flat wash brush
• Masking tape, two water jars, mixing palette
