Seeing, Simplifying, and Creating with Confidence
In this foundational course, students will build essential skills for drawing and painting landscapes with confidence. Through focused studies in perspective, composition, value, and color, you’ll learn how to simplify complex outdoor scenes into clear, strong designs. We’ll begin with structured practice in the studio to develop visual problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of how light, space, and atmosphere work in a landscape.
From there, we’ll transition to painting on location. Starting with approachable subjects and gradually increasing in complexity. Students will learn how to begin a painting efficiently outdoors, create effective studies, and gather the right information to confidently complete and refine the work back in the studio. This class provides a practical, repeatable process from first observation to finished landscape.
